Shot entirely in black and white by photojournalist Bill Eppridge, the Skateboarding in New York City photo series takes place in the 1960s.

Skateboarding was first introduced in the '40s and '50s, but it was the '60s that it began to truly flourish.

By exhibiting the excitement and exhilaration kids experienced when zooming down pedestrian walkways and streets, it is obvious why this sport took off like it did.
